We’re a group of instructional designers who specialise in the design of university-level programmes, courses, modules, units and individual learning activities or experiences.
Universities are rapidly expanding their provision of online and blended learning courses. Although Universities have a lot of expertise in ‘technology-enhanced Learning’ and the development of academic practice; Instructional design is a unique and specialist field of practice which leads or supports the design and effective delivery of online courses.
Learning technologists or academic practice advisors working in Universities often find themselves working in the role of an ‘ID’ but rarely have the breadth or depth of experience needed or the support structures in place to develop and support their practice.
Sometimes academics are simply required to ‘get on with it’ and transform an existing courses into an online one OR they find themselves heading up the full design, delivery and academic administration of a online programme for the first time!
This is where we come in! We provide a range of dedicated services to support IDs and academics in developing courses and their practice.
Why should you care about ‘instructional design’?
- The student experience
Remember the NSS or Graduate SS? Well the online student experience has much more to do with quality design than face-to-face courses! Ensure your future students are happy, productive, engaged and academically acheving through the use of good pedagogical design principles. - Teaching quality standards
The Teaching Equality Framework is coming! your university will have its own QA framework but neither are likely to focus on the specific needs of online students – so by using a research-informed evidence-based design methology in your courses that validation day will be a walk in the park! - Speed of design and development
Have you had ‘blank page syndrome ‘? Written half a module and torn it up when you tried to write the other half as it lacked consistency or your ideas morphed? Well the use of our dedicated ID design planning tools and academic design methodology will ensure you use your time effectively and more importantly you can write content confidently as you go along towards a ‘bigger plan’. - Efficacy in delivery and assessment
As an academic we know the design of effective assessments are the icebergs of academic teaching life; we make them look simple but so much goes into designing them or marking them. Use our online assessment design tools to balance formative, peer, automated and tutor marked assessments yet retain the academic rigor needed of HE level courses.
